Baek Nyon Chon Mah (백년천마/백련천마) in Dojunim own words: Train 100 times , Shine/polish 1,000 times. (1,000 Polish is an infinite number ). This is Dojunim message on how we should train once we done something 100 times we need to spend a life time polishing it.
Learning and knowledge acquisition takes place in steps: (1) wrote memory, (2) working memory and (3) long term memory, information is acquired mainly visually and auditory. Hapkido requires kinetic replication of acquired information. Therefore, in hapkido kinetic strategies (repetition through physical application) are implemented to obtain greater acquisition in long term memory. Still the main source of initial acquisition is visual and auditory. Once information is settled in long term memory kinetic strategies further improve retention. Thus, repetition practice 100 times is important (kinetic) but even more important is 1,000 attention to detail (visual and auditory). Dojunim simple teaching provides a depth of insight that takes psychologist years to research and study to understand in two simple sentences. I have compared all psychology related teaching of Dojunim to modern research and in each one of them he is spot on. Each one of his statements carry the weight of many modern and traditional models of psychology within them. Especially those that most people seem to dismiss as too metaphysical or esoteric to consider in day to day life.
